Each year it is hosted in a different city and commemorated with an international exposition throughout the week of June 5th. June 14Flag Day is an American holiday celebrating and showing respect to our flag and the people who designed and created it. Our flag represents our independence as Americans and our unity as a nation. It leads our soldiers in battle and many have died protecting it. It even stands on the moon.

June 15Father's Day is the day we celebrate our fathers. It was invented by a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd who was raised by her father and thought that they should be celebrated just as much as mothers. Her father was born in June so she chose to hold the first fathers day on June 19th of 1910. June 19Juneteenth - also known as Emancipation Day, is the oldest known holiday celebrating the end of slavery. It started on June 19, 1865 when the Union soldiers, led by General Granger, came to Galveston Texas and announced that the Civil War was over and the slaves were free. General Granger read the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing approximately 250,000 slaves in the state of Texas. Texas and Oklahoma are the only two states in the United States that have made Juneteenth a legal holiday. For more information, please visit www.juneteenth.com

Sag Harbor Chamber's Tourist Information Center is now open at the Windmill on Long Wharf. Through June, open Friday-Sunday from 10am-4pm, then 7 days a week from 10am-4pm from July 1 through Labor Day. Pick up useful literature about Sag Harbor and the Chamber, chat with our delightful staff, and perhaps buy a T-Shirt, Mug, or Key Chain to remind you about the wonderful time you had in Sag Harbor!
"Customer Appreciation Day," coffee and donuts are served at Apple Bank, Main Street, Sag Harbor, the first Friday of each month, during lobby hours. In appreciation of all of our customers, both existing and new! Let us introduce ourselves to you! For more info, call 725-2200.
Y.A.R.D.'s 2008 Safe Summer Beach Program, for teens age 12-18, to get together and socialize in a drug and alcohol free youth area. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday night from 8pm-11pm through August 31st. There will be music, sports, contests, ice cream, special events, bands and more! Run by Youth Advocacy Resource Development, a collaborative effort by NYS, Suffolk County, Southampton and East Hampton Towns, Sag Harbor Village, North Haven Village, and the Sag Harbor School District.
