February 1National Freedom Day, National Freedom Day commemorates the signing of the 13th Amendment outlawing slavery on February 1, 1865 by President Lincoln. President Harry Truman signed the bill proclaiming February 1 as National Freedom Day, June 30, 1948.

February 2Groundhog Day is celebrated every year on February 2nd midway between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox. Free Senior Tax Help, supplied through the AARP Tax Aide Program, will be available for senior citizens in the lower level of the Suffolk County National Bank, on Main Street in Sag Harbor, every Tuesday from 10am-2pm, through April 12. No appointment is necessary. Seniors are asked to bring a copy of their 2004 Federal and State tax return, together with their tax documents for 2005.
